Mr. Donald Richard Young, 93, of Raleigh, NC passed on July 5, 2020 at SECU Hospice House in Smithfield, NC.

Arrangements: American Cremation & Funeral Service.

A discussion with Donald's friend and attorney, Robert Sleight, revealed that Donald was born in Allentown, PA and spent his early years there. Like many of his generation, Donald felt he needed to serve his country, so in November of 1944 he joined the US Navy - three months prior to his 18th birthday. He served as a boatswain mate and saw combat action during the Battle of Iwo Jima and the invasion of Okinawa. Donald passed away on July 5, 2020 after his health declined rapidly due to congestive heart failure.
