Mr. Billy Ray Jackson, 79, of Dunn, passed away Saturday, Jan. 6, 2024, at his home surrounded by his family. He was born in Wayne County on October 12, 1944, to the late Hubert Jackson and Gennie Best Jackson Britt. He is preceded in death by his sister, Lynette Jackson, brother-in-law, Curtis Jackson, brother, Gary Britt and sister-in-law, Betty Lou Jackson.

Billy had a servant heart that was shown through his devotion to his wife, family, and community. His greatest joy in life was spending time with his wife of 58 years and raising their loving son. Always a giver and provider, he blessed his family with a wonderful place to call home. His servant leadership went well beyond his family into his community work and neighborly love. While being a faithful member at Maple Grove Methodist Church serving in many capacities, he was a loyal neighbor that always wanted to care for his community. He enjoyed serving as a member and national representative for Woodmen Life.

Billy loved God, his family and our country. As a Vietnam veteran, he proudly served in the United States Army. Having a dedication to work, he retired as an accountant from CP&L after 41 years.

A funeral service will be held Wednesday at 11 a.m. at Maple Grove Methodist Church by Pastor Chris Leak and Rev. Walter Gaskins. Burial to follow in the church cemetery.

He is survived by his wife, Linda McLamb Jackson; son, Billy Arthur "Art" Jackson and wife Morgan of Wallace; brother, Delma Earl Jackson of Goldsboro and beloved nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Skinner & Smith Funeral Home in Dunn.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Maple Grove Methodist Church C/O Joyce Herring, 1555 Watery Branch Road, Dunn, NC 28334.
